My 1st tank

So this is what Ive got so far
90 gal glass 48" long 24" high and 18" wide
sits on a 28" high oak cabinet
almost done building the oak hood just need to put on hinges and mount the light to it.
90 lbs of aragonite fine sand
30 lbs of live aragonite fine sand
Just ordered 35lbs of fiji live rock base
just ordered 45lbs of caribbean live rock.... (hopeing this live rock will do the job of makeing some good hideing places, should be here monday.)
Aquac remora HOB skimmer w/mag drive pump
1 Aquaclear powerhead 110 supposedly does 900+gph for circulation
digital thermometer
300 watt submersible heater
48" 8 54watt t5 light with fan (3 actinic bulbs and 5 10k bulbs)

Of course there are the other various test kits and addatives and whatnot that I have got. So am I missing anything, am I overlooking any NEEDED equipment,as I have stated before I want this to be mainly a fowlr with a few select corals and other invertebrates.

Recomendation

sounds like the gear is well thought out and should work out for you. the only recomendation i would give is mabe another powerhead for water movement and mabe a wavemaker device to make random water movement. another posibility is a sea swirl. watermovement is highly variable on the reef and depending on what animals you would like to care for the requiremnents change. best of luck.

a second thought might be a good test kit or meter. digital meters for temp and ph are great.

Well just need some fish then because the water has been in and circulating for about 5 days now. Still waiting to see through the cloudy water, since I filled up the tank put salt in it and the next day I dumped all my sand in it, the water didnt seem to like that too much, oh well, I have plenty of time to sit and look at the dirty water . As for my hood, well there's not much to say about that. I made it about an inch too short on the length so the light wont fit in it and my cordless framing nailer decided to take a dump on me so I guess Ill have to wait on that hood until I get a new nailer. I dont mind, the light still looks good just sitting on top of the tank all lit up, lookin like dirty old gutter water . Gonna try and get some pictures up tomorrow after the monster truck show at the dome. Also I have been running tests on the water and amonia has gone from .25 to .5 in 4 days nitrite hasnt moved out of zero and my nitrate has gone from 5 to 10 and it seems my salinity and gravity dropped some as well from 1.022 to 1.021 and from 31 to 29. I have run 3 tests on the tank since I put sand in it on the 10th of this month. Do these numbers look about average. I was under the impression I wouldnt see any nitrate until I saw amonia and nitrite way up. Alas, I am new so I am probably wrong. I love all the input I get from you fine folks around here, it sure is nice and inexpensive haveing this much knowledge at your finger tips to figure stuff out before ya lose yer wallet and yer livestock.

Thank you for all of your help.

Nitrate

because you brought a bag of live sand into the system there is sometimes some built up nitrates in the sand and rock introduced into the system. if you added the water that came with the sand then the nitrate could have come from that. i would not wory about the nitrates untill the system has completed cycling and there is 0 ammonia and nitrites. things take a while to stabilize and a level as low as 10ppm is not a problem. most publications say not to wory about nitrates unless they exceed 20ppm in an established tank.

I was also looking at the CPR CS90 Overflow Box but really what does this thing do? I am also looking at the pan world 50px-x pump to use as circulation. I guess pumps and the reason for overflows confuse me. The pumps and all the threads in the forums talk about header. Now where I come from a header is a beam used in construction for support of a doorway or window Now when someone talks about max head such as the pan world pump they say it produces 1110 gph of water and max head is 13 feet. How would this affect the pump with pvc plumbed up from under the tank up the back and over the top of the tank for suction and return. I do believe this is basically a CLS which is what I am going for with several small cpvc such as 1/4" plumbed in on the return side so that I can circulate the water from different areas of the tank also possibly and it is a big mabey but I was thinking of incorporating a spray bar as well without needing another pump. Then I would supply the pump with a 1 1/2". Now, I hear about sumps and overflows and pumps and powerheads But what I am really confused about is why exactly would one need a HOB overflow for? Wouldnt it be the same as just plumbing the pvc into your tank for suction down to the pump and back up again? Or is a second tank of some sorts needed underneath for use of the overflow. I see all sorts of really neat looking stuff that I would love nothing more to do than just buy but eventually I think Ill have more crap hanging from my tank than critters actually liveing in it. So, closed loop, single pump, max head and min head, pvc and or cpvc for plumbing, overflow and last but not least closed loop used for circulation, these are things that my head is just plain hurting from trying to figure out how things work and why a person needs or uses them. I thought lighting was confuseing but this stuff blows lighting away hands down IMHO I do have a plan for my plumbing if anyone wants to hear it. I can sometimes be long winded though and Ive been known to write long posts

Thanks again for all the help, its much needed and very much appreciated
