In Need Of Sand

Looking for Sand for a 125 gal and 75 gal. but dont want to pay lfs pricing on it. its rediculous what they can charge for just sand. ive heard of southdown and newcastle and stuff like that but havent had any luck finding it. anyway if anyone can point me in a direction on where to find some sand that would be awsome, i live in the cincinnati northern kentucky area.

The new southdown/newcastle replacement that is being tried is limestone based sands. Several people on RC and Michigan Reefers are now trying or using this type of sand with success. Being Limestone, it is calcium carbonate, and will still bubble/disolve in vinager, but perhaps a bit slower. The white playsand HD sells in our area is limestone based by durascape. I plan to use it in my 210 I am setting up and feel it will be just fine. The concern about Silica is more and more being debunked as purly myth and there are those in the community that use white silica sand with success.

There are a couple of clubs in your area that might be able to direct you to a store that carries one of the Southdown sands.
