WaveMaster Pro

Was thinking of buying a WaveMaster Pro. Wanted to know if anybody might own one of these systems, and if they are worth buying or if you might recommend a different type of wavemaker.

I got a WaveMaster Pro not too long ago after lots of research on wavemakers. All of them have their pros and cons. I'll assume you want to go with a controller type unit that runs pumps. There are, of course, other types of wavemakers (many of them much less expensive). The electronic controllers have the most flexibility in terms of variable choices in the flow pattern.

I covet the Tunze streams with a Tunze Multicontroller, but it was just too much for my current system. I also didn't want the pump units blocking the view from the ends of the tank. I'll be going with this system in my new big tank that I'm currently working on New 265 gallon Perfecto

However, I went with the WaveMaster Pro in my 75 gallon tank (using MaxiJet pumps) for several reasons. I like the flexibility of the Wavemaster Pro - different settings are available for different types of flow, slower nighttime flow, feeding cycle, easy hook up and programming, and runs four pumps. The down side of the Wavemaster Pro (I haven't experienced it yet) is that they have a reputation for blowing one or more of the pump circuits - suddenly one of the pump plugs doesn't work. Allegedly, they cannot be repaired; the unit has to be replaced or run with one less pump.

I am very satisfied so far with the WaveMaster Pro, and I haven't had any difficulties (yet).

There are a number of wavemakers on the market. Most of them are cheaper than the Wavemaster Pro and the Tunze... but they do not have the choices and options on the cycles (including random cycles) that the more expesive units have. Many of them are just timers that turn pumps on and off in a rotational manner after running for an adjustable amount of time. If you have the dispensible income, and the Tunze system is overkill, the WaveMaster is a good choice.

Also, if you get an electronic controller, be sure that your pumps are designed to work with a controller. Rios, for example, have a warning now that says not to use them with wavemakers.

Thanks for your help Bubba, I think I'll go ahead and try the wavemaster. Nice tank by the way. Hope you place more pics in the future.

We have run one with some MJ 1200's for quite some time now without any problems at all. For a smaller system and when the Tunze's are not feasible, this is the way to go.

I have not used the Wave Master Pro, but I have used a bunch of other wave making devices. I reviewed them here,
