Aquarium Conservation Presentation

I have been asked to develop a presentation discussing some aspect of conservation, but I don't have any ideas. Any suggestions?

Are you looking for conservation efforts of hobbiests? I think I heard that some species of Sinularis leathers are no longer able to be collected in the wild due to over collecting in the past... That may be a start, I am sure there is lots of info available to substantiate or disprove my hypothesis though!

How about different things the average aquarist can do to protect the environment? In addition to the coral propogation that Mike suggested, you could also talk about "making" live rock, or buying aquacultured rock, cultured corals and clams, tank bred fish and anemones... and we can all help by not setting free non-native species into the local environment.... just my thoughts, since you asked.

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...

Hmmm, an interesting and difficult topic. What about something different, something that inspires people to not look at the fish and corals for marine aquariums as "disposable life."

how about the aquarium and food industry's money and drive to support the clam farms. how now only certian species of animal no longer live in there natural habitat due to over collecting and now only exist due to clam farms. a good refrence would be knops book on the giant clams. also a google search works wonders.
