It Lives!!!!!!!
IT LIVES!!!!!
At approximately 3:18pm today the tank came to life!! It is not breathing under its own power and is in the salt circulation and heating part of its cycle. If everything looks good tomorrow, the sand will go in and the multi day settling stage will begin. ![]() Here are a few more pics for your enjoyment. Here it is ALMOST ready to crest the overflows. ![]() Here is a shot of my I/O with color coded valves, of course duplicated on the other side. The brass hose barbs are part of my temp circulation system. They will be replaced in a few days once the sump goes in. ![]() Here is a shot of my temp setup. Working well to get the water flowing and everything settled. ![]() One last pic of it doing its thing. Salt has already been added at this point and its looking pretty good. ![]() I finished my sump today as well, it should be ready for water in two days. More to come.. Jack

You got it setup and did not cover that back yet? I would make sure to do this before going too much further.

1 Step forward 2 steps back..
Well I added the southdown tonight... Really glad I rinsed it real good, its still a bit cloudy, but I can't imagine what it would be like if I didn't wash it.
However ran into a BIG problem... a REALLY UNBELIEVABLE PROBLEM!!!!! After all the work I did on the sump, design, cutting, setup, etc.... guess what? The damn thing won't fit through the side door of my stand... What a freaking nightmare!!!!! I can't believe It!!! I don't know what happened Im pretty sure I spec'd it correctly... but obviously not.. So here I sit with a perfectly good 55L sump and no way to get it under the stand... Well I could cut it a little bit.. humm lets see.. 220G of water with me under it with a sawall!!!!! There's a GREAT PLAN!!!! Needless to say im a bit frustrated... Lesson to be learned, NEVER NEVER NEVER ASSUME something is as you expect it to be!!! OK.. moving on... what to do next, that is the key. Jack

I really, really hate to say this, but I think you are gonna have to empty the tank, That is the only way you are gonna be safe. With nothing else but water and sand, you sure are not gonna hurt anything, aside from a tiny bit of pride.
On a side note, are you going to use that clear plastic hose? If you are, I would wrap it to prevent algae growth on the inside of the tubing. Good luck Jack, keep us updated. |

I was wondering before this happened why you didn't wait and put the sump in before filling the tank...but it;s too late now.
Sorry you run into first jam, Jack. I think Charlie is right and the best thing to do is to get some containers and empty the tank enough so it could be moved, install the sump from the back( is it an open back stand?). Probably the safest thing to do.

Charlie and Gene...
There is literally no way to get the 55L (21" high) sump into the stand at this point without complete disassemble of the whole setup. The back of the stand is not open, there are two supports across the back. The only way would be to remove the tank entirely and take off the decking of the top of the stand and drop it in. I may just get a shorter tank. 18" and rebuild the sump. That actually may be the easiest way out.. If anyone is looking for a 55L sump ready to roll I know where you can get one cheap.. LOL Also on the clear tubing, no I will not be keeping that, its just hooked up to get the water circulating and will all be replaced when the sump goes in with perm. PVC setup. What to do.. What do to..

That really sucks, Jack. I installed larger sump on my 75 by removing front center post while tank were running full speed but it;s a 75g tank and couple of braces on the sides took care of the weight. I wouldn't dream of doing something like that on the 220 or even 150g tank. I think while there is no rock in there the tank could be emptied enough to be taken off the stand. I know, easy to say for me... however, I think 55g sump is a perfect size for a 220g tank, if you consider the room for all the eqipment and drainage and flow capasity that it will provide. All I can say is that you got some decisions to make. ![]()

OK, here is an idea. To keep the water volume up, get the smaller sump, maybe you could use the 55 for a refugium.
