Nice tank!

Are you going to paint the back glass? If so, what color?
Also, how accessible the tank is with those front doors on the canopy?
Sorry for so many questions but it's hard to judge the size from pictures.

Looks good!

I know you have it up against the wall tight since it is not set up yet, but make sure you leave at least 6" of space back there!

Refresh our memories, how big is that thing? It is deep, you are gonna have to hold your girls by their ankles to reach the bottom tho!
In fact, give us the whole deal length -width- height.
I think you will have a real nice aquascape option also. I have to agree with Poseidon tho, you will want to move it out from the wall at least 5 inches.

I'm going to put mine at least 6 inches away from the wall so I can get to the stuff that falls behind the tank! The LFS installed my 75 about 1 1/2 inches from the wall... what a P.I.T.A.!!!

Looking good there, Jack!

Gene, since you mentioned painting the back of the tank... what sorta paint do you use? Is there special spray paint for glass or do you just use good ole fashioned Rustoleum Enamel? Other than cleaning the glass good, is there any other prep needed?

Bubba,

I think any spray paint will do, I would personally use black enamel paint becouse black is great for taking photos. Everything stands out perfectly.

My tanks have this fake blue background paper, I was a real newb when I was setting up my tanks and didn;t think of painting the back glass.

If you have room to spare I would go even further than 6". Moisture from evaporation, saltcreep, etc. will play havoc on the paint job on that wall it is up against. Plus, if you need some additional plumbing, pipes behind the tank and such, it will make a big difference in the ease of maintanance.

An alternative to painting is to use a black felt material. We used this type of material, picked up from the Wal-Mart craft section, and have been pleased with it.

My current tank back it painted black and to be honest im starting to dislike it a bit.

Good for pictures? You bet!! Like you said everything stands out really well..

What don't I like about it? Like you said EVERYTHING stands out really well.. LOL

Any particles in the water seem to really be visable at certain times of the day.

Im thinking of blue for the big tank.. If I go black again, I will definetly due the black felt, great idea. I won't paint again.

Just food for thought.

Jack

I'm looking forward to more pics as you progress, Jack!

P.S. I really like the doors on the ends of the stand... I bet that will come in handy!

Figured I would keep this thread going to update everyone on the progress as we move along here..

I hooked up the RO/DI unit today and started filling the tank.. It is rated at 100GPD, but MAN this thing is SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW.... LOL It might just be me!!!! It is moving along, will see where it is in the morning.

Bulk heads are in and plumbing kits are all in place. I have setup a "temp" circulation system to get the water moving for salt and sand once it is full and im not quite done with my sump yet, but it will be ready in a day or two.

If I play my cards right tank will be settled and sump will be all cured and ready to go...

Stay tuned..

The lower your water pressure, the slower the RO unit works... of course, it will take over 48 hours to fill you tank (not counting the sump) if it is running at max capacity!

You taking pics as you fill it? (OK, I admit I'm a bit obsessed with this tank thing....)

Let there be liquid...

Well it has been filling up for about 36 hours now... So far so good..

Bulk heads look good with no leaks.. "thus far" and the overflows appear to be well sealed.

Here are some pics for your enjoyment.

At 24hr....

Here it is at 36hrs....

My yougest was upset she was not in the picture above, so I promised to include here in this one..

Here is the RO/DI setup im using. I got it from Melev's Reef.. Of course this is just a temp location.. Very happy with it.

I had to throttle back the flow because the RO unit was not keeping up with DI.. You can see the water lever was low in this picture.

Thats it for now.... more to come soon.. Hopefully will be circulating water by sunday..

On a side note, friend of a friend was breaking down his 150.. scored 200lbs of LR.. BUCK A POUND!!! oo yea..
