Recommendation for a new skimmer!

I am looking for a skimmer for my 300 gallon reef to replace the two I have! I was thinking of a becket style skimmer but I have no clue. I'm just fedup with my 4' tall venturi style anf my POS Americle skimmer. They both work well but my wife HATES the 4' monster and the other is only rated for a 200 gallon. So if anyone can help me with what they think I should go with and why, would be great! I want a GOOD skimmer NOT on that looks good!

Martin

I have a ASM G3, and it works great, you could look in to a g6, for the price it will be hard to beat. On the other hand I have been looking at the MRC's for a while, they are fully upgadeable, meaning you can add height to the reaction chamber and more injectors if you need a bigger skimmer later rather than buying a new one, and their prices are not to bad.

Give Brent a call, it might still be a large skimmer, but it kicks butt. I have the sk4220.

Holy Crap Charlie, Can I just hook up to your skimmer? I second Charlie's recommendation, but make sure to look @ MRC, I keep going back and forth between those two!

I'm glad you told us it was a skimmer... from the picture I thought it was a new space shuttle!

So you really really really like the Barr, eh Charlie? I'll have to give Brent a call... but it looks like I'd have to wait at least 8 weeks. < Lord, please grant me patience NOW!>

It doesn't smell like a space shuttle when I empty it.
Yeah, from what I hear, he's a little busy, but I think it would be worth the wait, give ya a chance to save up for some other stuff too

Have you considered any of the H&S skimmers? I have never used one, but hear good things about them. They are a bit pricey but...

For the money I don't think you can beat an ASM (unless your in tight with Geo) I've never used an ASM but I have seen them in action. I do like my Geo Recirc tho.

Hey Charlie, does the Barr have to be in the sump? Do ASM skimmer have to be in the sump?

ASM's are typically mounted in the sump, but can be modified for external use as a recirculating skimmer.

The ASM will leak around the cone, you cannot runn it out of sump even with the recirc mod. Unless you can some how make it not leak around the cone to mainbody coupling you will have water on your floor.
