    Hi philolsen,

There isn't much your going to get for $100. The lowest end I would look for is a CPR Bak-Pak for that size tank. Maybe you can find a used one for sale.

I agree with Scott. The CPR Bak-Pak and Excalibur HV-1 are the only thing that come close, but both are more than $100. If you have to, put off buying that lemonpeel a while longer.

as always i will throw out my bit about diy projects. if your on a serious tight budget and have a small tank there is no reason why you cant make a small venturi or counter current skimmer for the money. if your realy not consirned how it looks then you could even make a recirculating skimmer with white pvc pipe. funciton over form goes a long way on a little money.

The coralfe super skimmer 65 is under $100, and the new asm mini is supposed to be around $100 too, both are very good options for a 55g.
If I only had a bigger tank, I could.......

i have not herd anything good about the coralife skimmer and any skimmer can be rated by those that use them. before you buy do a search on this site for the skimmer your looking to buy and i am shure there will be tons of info posted by others asking questions or having problems. you get what you pay for.
