Every ASM skimmer I've seen in action leaks badly. They make a Recic mod that will make the skimmer work better but it will probably still leak.
well i was wondering if anyone has ever mounted an ASM skimmer externally?
the reason i ask is because i am setting up a tank for my cousin and the skimmer hasnt been delivered yet but by the foot print size i know it will not fit in the sump they have set up. i wanted to just run up to the wall mart and buy a 30 gallon make them a new sump one that included a bubble trap, but my uncle is insisting on using the one they baught from the fish store( who ripped the off big time)and who said to mount the skimmer outside the sump but this skimmer seems like it would be much easier to intall right in a sump and save everyone here a huge hassle of drilling and doing on that junk

Most ASM skimmer will leak a bit at the joints. This is why they are termed "in-sump" skimmers.
ASM can not be used externally. Go to ASMSkimmer.com they will be able to give you any infor that you will need.
Go grab the other tank!!!!
Or tell them to go grab the mop and buckets
