Ok, I Got The Ramora And A Maxi 1200
Alright I Followed All Of Your Advice And Broke Down And Bought A Ramora Skimmer And A Maxi-jet 1200 For My 55 Gal. As Everyone Suggested, I Have A Amiracle Sump And A 48" 10,000k Light Is There Anything Else I Should Get? I Have 2 Damsels A Huma Huma, And Am Planning Over Time To Add A Lemon Peel Angel, A Percula And Maybe A Naso Tang, I Am Thinking About Adding Live Rock In The Future Right Now I Only Have Decorative Pieces And I Want To Make Sure I Have A "decent" Set Up To Keep Everything Healthy And Happy For A Long Time.

The Naso is way to big for a 55 and the Huma-Huma is borderline in my opinion.
As to decorations, it is somewhat counter intuitive, but the more hiding spots there are, the less the fish will actually hide. When there are multiple places they could dash off to in a moments notice, they seem to be less concerned and willing to stray. But, when there are only enough hiding places for each fish to have one, they tend to hunker down and stay put. |

I have no problem with the fish hiding, the Huma Huma is even "friendly" it is hand fed and is out and about almost all the time, as are the damsels. Can I put a Regal Tang instead of the Naso or is it to lagre also? I want a active tank but I dont want to make the fish suffer for my benefit, I am trying to learn everyday about the hobby and seem to get the best info here, I want to do it right.
Thanks, Phil |

A 55 is bordeline for any tangs. The regal is a poor choice though just like the naso. A better one would be a small yellow or yellow-eye, but either would still outgrow the 55.

IMHO, adding cured live rock to your tank will be necessary for long-term stability and overall health of the tank. At least a pound per gallon. DO NOT add rock that is not fully-cured.

The Remora is a great addition. I had purchased cheap skimmers in the past and never realized what I could be removing from the tank by making the investment. I did upgrade mine last week from the Maxi1200 to a Mag3 drive. The cup is filling up twice as fast.
