Wave2k

Anybody use this? I'm setting up a 100 gal reef. The website says I need two devices. Is it a product that works?

I have approx 1000 gph of flow into the tank from the sump. If I add one WAVE2K will that suffice?

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

These have been out for a while and while I have not used one, I have heard from numerous sources that the belt that operates and wave mechanism breaks routinely. A better, similar device would be the Tunze Wavebox.

I have spoke with the guys at Wave2K about the belt problems and was informed that this was old news that has been long corrected. He mentioned that the new gears allow the belts to last for several years. I am thinking about giving one a try in the future.

Thanks guys. I email Wave2K as to how many I need. I'm going to try one in the center of the tank, before I aquascape it. I'll let you know how it works... it will be a while as I'm just getting started.
Thanks again

That reminds me of one of my favorite advertising lines, "Have you driven a Ford lately?" i.e. we know we used to build some real junk before, but we are much better now.

If I remember right the old ones came with a belt that looked like a glorifed rubber band. The newer versions come with a belt that looks simmilar to a belt you would use on a car. I would love to see how it works out for you. I have been contemplating one myself.

Good Luck

There is soooo much out there. I'm looking at the Tunze Turbelle, probably only one 6000 with controller and the return flow, perhaps with Ocean Motion device. The Wave2K would make it all so simple. I've got an acrylic tank which makes it difficult to take out once I aquascape and create my reef. The Tunze wave box is just too big.

All these decisions and machinations. This is what makes this hobby so much fun! I'm havin' a great time and hope to have a great reef.

Thanks for your feedback.

I have seen both and from what I remember, they are both about the same size volume-wise. They are both about the same height. The Wavebox is more square whereas the Wave2K is thinner but much longer.

Thanks for the heads up, Charles.
Was it noise from the very beginning? I wonder if the Tunze is as noisy.

How old was the unit? When did you purchase it?

The Tunze unit itself is silent. But, you might hear water noise depending on your tank. I saw one Tunze Wavebox on a tank with corner overflows. That was somewhat annoying to me. As the wave moved back and forth, one overflow would catch water and then the other, so you had dueling slurping noises every two seconds.

I think you had a large article on these at one time eh steven? After I did my research I was scared away by the amount of noise these boxes could produce. I imagine though that a person could get around that by just useing one large box but I think I recall the bulkyness of the larger unit was a little unsightly (I think it was). At any rate, I like the sound of a little bit of water moveing but there is a very fine line (for me at least) between a LITTLE bit of water movement and extremely annoying. I am still wanting to possibly try one when I upgrade to my 300 so Id love to hear what other peoples conclusions are before I waste alot of money just to give one a test drive for a few weeks. Make sure ya keep us updated on that wave box

Todd

I did a review piece on inexpensive wavemakers, but not the Wavebox.
