The 100 gpd membranes are not supposed to be as good as the 75 gpd membranes. They let more stuff through. Which means you will go through more DI resin.
As for the brand, I never heard of them. I always use SpectraPure for RO units. |

Thank you for the advice. Theres so much to learn and so little money to goof up buying the wrong things.

I have never used or heard of this brand, but I did buy my RO/DI unit from ebay. Mine is an Aqua-Safe 6 stage that I got for around $150 USD. I have had it for a year and it is great. My home water TDS is about 150 ppm and the Aqua-Safe brings it down to 7ppm! My tanks loves it. I think you can just do a search on ebay and you will find them. They were a great company to deal with, everthing arrived in perfect condition and the transaction went perfect.

Thanks Mark, I searched Ebay and found the ones you mention. Seems like a good deal. Price is very decent even when factoring in shipping. Thank you. |

You want to stay away from the 100 gpd or more units. They use drinking water RO membranes that have a rejection rate or 90%..The lower gpd units have a 98% rejection rate.
From what I've been seeing lately your going to get a 100 gpd membrane from ebay, no matter what the info says, if its cheap and new. try these places http://www.purelyh2o.com/ http://www.airwaterice.com/ |

found this as well any info
ok first not sure how to make this as pretty as the firston but i was looking on ebay and found this unit and was wondering how it would work i really am on a tight budget to get started so that is the bigest reason for the 100gpd filter.
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Reef-6-st-10...QQcmdZViewItem can anyone give me any ifo on this unit. |

Here are things I look for in a good RO/DI unit: 1.) Clear housing for both the prefilters and DI cartridge 2.) Vertically mounted DI cartridge 3.) 98% rejection membrane 4.) Pressure gauge |

Check out one of our sponsors, AquaFX at http://www.aquariumwaterfilters.com/ . They manufacture RO/DI units for some of the other sponsors. I'm very satisfied with mine.

I wouldn't categorize that as great performance. My tap TDS is about 635. My RO/DI gets that down to 0. Something is not working correctly if you are only getting down to 7 TDS. I replace my DI cartridge once I get into the 2-3 TDS range. I wouldn't put 7 TDS into my tank. A quality RO/DI will get get your water to 0. Later Drew |

I haven't produced newly filtered water in some time, but have been working off the stockpile I have. The current filter media is clearly in need of replacement. The question is, are most filter cannisters a standard size and can the performance be increased by purchasing the better cartridges? If so, it would seem that a cheaper system with the more expensive(better) filter media would be the way to go, if the $50-100 makes a big difference.

However, if you go with a cheaper system you may get an off brand/lower quality membrane, horizontal or small DI resin cartridge, no pressure gauge, no DI bypass valve, non refillable cartridges....

Blue,
I already have my RO/DI system. I needed new filter inserts and was asking if they were generally a standard size. If they are fairly standardized then I could purchase replacements of high quality and achieve the water quality we all strive for. I've recently purchased the replacements and think I upgraded. |
