SG meters/densitometers
I'm not sure on what the correct terminology of these things is, but I'm getting worried that my salinity is adrift and the meter the LFS sold me is some poopy that relies on temp. Not good and probably not even accurate at the right temperature either.
Ideally I'd like to get this right before I start putting "real" stock in. The hitchhikers seem to be managing OK, but that's really no surprise since they already survived transport, shipping and harvesting!

I like my refractometer. it is very accurate. The swing arm testers arent very accurate. They get gooped up with salt and will give you miss leading reading. Check into a refractometer.

I tend to find that with instruments - the cheaper they are, the less accurate and reliable they tend to be. As you can imagine I have a swing arm (I was so green when I got it, I didn't know any better). I'll have a look-see on eBay! Thanks. (Hope you enjoy Reefland - great place to be.)
