808 gal tank.
Hey guys.
![]() We're building a new house this year and we're wanting to put in a 808 gal tank. Dont know if its gonna be a room divider or wall unit just yet. Can anybody give the names/names of a manufacturer?? I've got one quote so far at around 11,00.00-/+. That includes holes drilled, overflows and freight.... thanks. Shellie PS what are your thoughts on the dimensions?? should i go shorter and wider??

What are the dimensions? You said it would be 808 gallons, but no dimensions.

I would be kind of leary about one that is only 11,00.00, it might be sort of shoddy.

Funny, I read 11,000 just because of the comma placement. I had to go back and re-read your post to see the typo.
ANyway.... Are you going to do glass or acrylic? I'm guessing wiith a 12' span it has to be acrylic right? Humidity, how are you going to account for it? I am guessing here, but I'll bit a tank that size COULD evaporate 20-30 GALLONS a day. (My 90 gallon loses 3 gallons a day) Weight, figuring just the weight of the water, you are close to 7000lbs! Lighting, a 12 foot tank will require at least 6 400W halides, and that will still leave 6" of space on the front and back that have less intense light. Of course there are many variables with lighting, halides would be my choice. Skimmer, you would need a HUGE one. Live Rock, you might want to order a PALLET of it! ![]() Substrate, do you want one? Well that is a start of the of the MANY MANY things you will need to plan for before you begin installation. |

I just got done setting up my 300 gl. system. I bought the tank from http://www.glasscages.com the people were real helpfull in my needs. I got the tank with lead free glass the color of the fish and coral are really vibrant.
I bought my pumps and skimmer from this guy http://www.saltycritter.com and he gave me free shipping also. Very good guy to work with. My tank was design to go into a wall at a house i was having build. But the bank lost the paper work and the builder decided to raise the price of everything so I bought a different house. Now the tank sits on a custom stand that I just finished last week. If I was you I would have the tank as a room divider with the skimmer box at one end of the tank. This will allow you to see both sides of the tank and maybe one end also. The big tanks in wall do not let you see all the life that is tanking place in the back half of the tank. I wish I would have done this after I set my tank up. 3' is a deep tank you will not be able to get to the back of the tank if you needed too. Just my opinion if it helps |

3 feet is the maximum I'd go for depth and width... otherwise, you'll need snorkel equipment to service it. My tank is 2 wide and 2 1/2 deep and it's trying at times to work on the bottom, especially in the back.
Do NOT underestimate the effect this tank will have on heat and humidity in your home. I just had to have another air intake and another vent added for my a/c to my aquarium room. I consulted with an electrician to be sure I had enough circuits to handle my system, but didn't consult with the a/c contractor beforehand, and I wish I had. The a/c contractor can also advise on appropriate placement for efficient functioning of your chiller. Also, since you live in hurricane-prone areas, consider a serious generator (whole house). If someone thinks $11,000 for the tank is expensive, wait until you total the livestock that goes in it!

I have seen a fish tank with light movers on it and I think it is a good thing to have on such a large tank. If you do a search on light movers you should find some. The plant world use them a lot in green houses.
You may also want to check with the tank people to get a quote on shipping. A tank that large may have to be put in the house first and then build the house around it. ![]() |
