Proper disposal of cracked tank

Does anyone know if there is a "proper" way to dispose of a tank that has cracked? Its a 40G breeder that has an arched crack right in the center. Should I just break the rest into little pieces and put with regular trash or is this too much glass to be considered normal and she be disposed of through special means?

Man if it were mine I would break it into small pieces and toss it in the garbage disposal when needed. I put glass into mine every once in a while, it keeps it really clean.

My disposal runs at 1900 RPM, pulverising the glass into thousands of little shards cutting, and scraping the food and gunk that is stuck to the surfaces. Whenever I toss something in like fresh andimal products and I hear that it has not been properly disposed of, in goes a piece of glass and cleans it right up.

Sounds interesting. However, since I'm in the process of selling my house I think I'll go with the trash option and avoid Murphy's law altogether with the garbage disposal. It'd just be my luck...

It will never reach them. When waste water is treated, it is cleaner than the natural body of water (lake or river) it is being introduced into.

yeah...he's right. I used to work at a waste water treatment plant. There is different sewer drainage than from home drainage, at least here anyways. The stuff i've seen in the waste water is quite disgusting and the filtration process is truly amazing to get a lot of that stuff out. The glass would more likely end up in your backyard garden before it would harm any wildlife.

Our local recycle bins take any colored glass for recycling. That's where I'd put it.

I meant as fertilizer. By the time is pulverized it's so fine you'd never know there was glass in your fertilizer.
