New Chiller
I may have been able to go w/ a 1/4hp but it would run more often. The cost between the two wasn't too much so I chose the 1/3. I have a 90 gal tank w/ 30 gal refugium and it is working great. Just in time too as we are getting some hot weather this week. It's not as loud as I thought it would be and really does not run as often as you might think. I have it set at a 2deg differential and an 83 deg turn on temp. Last summer I had a few corals bleach out on me but they came back over the winter. This summer everything looks great. It's so nice not to have to play w/fans and turn lights on or off at different times to keep things running cool. |

Tango,
I'm jealous you got your chiller in time. I recieved my 2x250W metal halide/pc light fixture a few days before going on vacation and set the timer so the MH's would come on 3 times a day for about 1.5 hours each time. Then the heat wave hit and the whole tank died except the male percula. The snowflake eel in the sump survived too. All corals bleached, feather dusters, snails, shrimps, crabs, etc. died. Even the algae, coralline etc. died. I'm told, after it was too late, that the thermometer which reads to 90 was off the chart. A chiller is in the budget before next summer. Good Luck. |
