Generic Bak Pak?

I have been seeing "generic" Bak Pak type skimmers on ebay, they look exactly like a Bak Pak. Wouldn't CPR have patent issues with this? Has anyone ever bought one? Just curious, thanks.

Hi BryanJen,

I am not sure about the design or patent issues but in general, I would only use a Bak-Pak on a 55gal or less.

I have a 36 Gallon BF, with a BakPak already. I was just shocked to see a seemingly identical design available. Also I'm curious as to the quality of the product, I see they are also selling the refugium models with the skimmer built in for dirt cheap as well.

Well the Bak-Pak knock off is horrible....I got one and it lasted all of 2 months. I didn't even bother trying to get a replacement...I went straight to my LFS and got a real Bak-Pak 2R+

That's what I figured, for that price it must be thin, cheap acrylic and just thown together prone to leak and/or break. Thanks for the info, I'm glad I bought the good one before I saw the cheap ones...... Bryan.
