Cheeck if the air line has water in it.
I am cycling a 55 gallon reef tank right now with live rock. I have over 1lb of live rock per gallon, a UV sterilizer, and this Coralife 65 super skimmer. My new Coralife 65 skimmer was working perfectly for weeks, pulling dark brown water from the tank...it looked like coffee.
About a week ago, I was getting alot of algae in the tank prior to the cycle being complete and I turned the light off. Until the tank balances and I can get a clean up crew in there, I did not want the die off from the algae to keep raising my Ammonia level, prolonging the addition of the snails and other algae eaters.
This week my skimmer is not producing as many fine bubbles as previously. It is, kinda but not as many as before at all. I checked the needle wheel and the pump and they were as clean as a whistle. Does the amount of polution in the tanks water have an effect on the skimmer? Will the skimmer start creating more bubbles when I add some fish and snails and they produce waste? Its like the skimmer is not working but it is -?

I have a similar problem - only mine produces a lot of bubbles in the reaction chamber but fails to produce anything significant in the way of skimmate.

I blew through the air intack...that thing that looks like a film canister and it did seem to improce slightly. I am going to persue water in the line. It may have happened during maintinence of the pump somehow.
The hole the tube is pressed onto, on the intake was clogged. Once I blew it out and replaced the tube it was A-OK.
