Go for a mag drive, reliable and affordable submersible pumps..
a mag 7 with 1" pipe and a pair of 45deg outputs will push a flow rate of about 367GPH. Laguna also makes a pretty reliable but uncommon and bulky sub pump. |

I'll second the mag drive.

Mag-drives are good, but I thought that the mag7 is a 3/4 outlet????

The mag7 is a 3/4 outlet but the 1" pipe allows for a smoother flow of water around any 90's, 45's or tee's in the pipework.

It also causes the pump to want to fill up that 1" pipe size, pumping more water than your return is good for. Been there done that!!
I was always told to never oversize the pipe on the exit of the pump, and I found out why. I pumped the sump dry because the overflow wouldn't handle the amount of water. |

well obviously your overflow still needs to be able to handle the flow produced by the pump. even the smallest overflow for a 55 should be able to handle 367GPH. I am pushing nearly 600 through the 1"durso in my drilled tank.
