Closed Loop w/o Drilling
I am going to attempt a closed loop again on our 75 without having the tank drilled. This time I am thinking of running an external pump (maybe a Gen-X Mak 4) which will sit on the ground with both inlet and outlet ran over the back of the tank. For the inlet to the pump, I would put a cap on top of the plumbing so the pump could be primed.
Anyone doing something similar? Will this work? |

prime the pump
You could also prime it by taking a second power head and forcing water though your inlet of the closed loop that is in the tank, I do that with my non drilled closed loop.

Hey Scott!
I am also going to add a closed loop onto my 25 gallon. I need to get rid of 4 power heads, which require maintanence. I have also heard that the hum of the motors in the water can stress the inhabitants and there is always the possibilty of stray voltage....

Not anything on paper. Just an idea in my head. It will probably just be a "U" tube that requires a siphon to start, down to say a mag5 and back up to a squid with a couple well angled lock lines. Nothing fancy. My corals are large enough now that they are impeading the flow. I have also considered using a Sea Swirl for the return.
