it is nice idea and me too i ll go for sand and i ll bring it from the beach.
but I have aproblem caze the filtter openning is at the bottom of my tank.
I've decided to replace the crushed coral substrate with a sand bed. What's the general consensus on the type of sand? Also can i just temporarily remove the live rock, remove the crushed coral and replace with sand? Do i need to keep fish and corals out of the tank for any length time? Lastly, would it make sense to purchase something to seed the bed, or are they just hype?
Thanks
Rob

Hi rjs,
You are looking at a pretty big project. Is it possible for you to setup a temporary tank to house the rock and livestock?
I can keep the 2 clowns in the QT, the brittle star may be difficult to get out of the rock, the snowflake eel is in the sump and the rock may have to go in a rubbermaid tub for a bit. What kind of time are we talking about? Just the time to remove the 60 or so pounds of crushed coral and the time for the sand to settle right?
Yeah I think that would be sufficient. If you could get everything into a heated and areated rubbermaid tub I think you'll be fine.
