REVIEW : RPS-3000 (Octopus Skimmer)
My setup:
150 gal display 50 breeder sump tek 8X54 watt t-5 fixture. 150 lbs live rock, 4"-5" Sand bed. So I bought a new skimmer a couple of weeks ago. I must say, when I first seen it, I thought to myself wow, it's really high quality, and very well built. Nice design, I like the "Plate it's mounted to." It's been running for about two weeks, I've pulled more gunk out of my water in the past two weeks, then I have in the last three months. I'm coming out of a corilife needlewheel super skimmer. Which I thought was a good skimmer and still think it was a fine skimmer. I just think I have too much for it to handle plus the adjustment is not that easy on it. Back the Octopus. Pros: Well built, Recurculating system, good plumbing connections, larger dia. drain hose (waste) does not clog, Easy to adjust, set it and forget it type system, Price Under $400 Cons: Not ozone safe, Gate valve would be better then ball valve. Pump is a little loud. Besides those few small things it's an awsome skimmer, It's producing a real foam/froth instead of just bubbles, which is something I never had with my Corilife Super Skimmer. All in all I'm VERY HAPPY with this unit. The price vs. performance is incrediable, I'd put it up against any skimmer in this price range. Thanks for reading. Sorry I'm long winded. |

Helped me, I'm in the market for a skimmer for my 65gal that will eventually be the sump for a future 150gal. Sounds like I have to add this to the list of possibilities and remove the Coralife.

Hey guys, Sorry for the delay on the pictures.
![]() I can't tell you guys how good this skimmer actually works. Best thing I've bought so far. The smaller skimmer is the Corilife 220. It looks so small compared. rjs5134 seriously think about this brand. Also I put a cd in the picture for size reference. Hopw this helps a little.Last edited by tray262; 11-27-2006 at 09:45 AM. |
