Which protein skimmer for me??

Hey guys my Xmas gift this yr from my girlfriend is any piece of reef equipment I want and I was between a calcium reactor and a skimmer and i think the skimmer is more important especially for immediate useage. So what skimmer would you recommend for my 220g tank?
Thanks
Jon

I like My Reef Creations skimmers. I would go with a MR-2 or MR-3.

Jon, that's a tough one. If it were me I'd go with a Deltec. I'm using a Geo 830 recirc on my 120, its a sweet skimmer but maybe a little small for your 220. You might want to contact Geroge (Geo) and see what he can do for you ........Geo's Reef.

Jiggy suggestion is another good choice. MRC makes some very nice skimmers. I've been trying for years to get Andy to send me one to try out The only thing about the Beckets head skimmers is they need a large pump and their a little noise. I'd opt for the MR-3 with two heads for you tank.

If you want the best bang for your buck check out the ASM G5...

Don't let your GF skimp here.. If she means you can gave anything for xmas then let her buy you the best now so you don't have to replace it later.

Here you go:

Austin Oceans - Protein Skimmers

The 2000 model should be perfect! However the 3000 would give you some extra room to add on another sump etc.....

I'll second the MRC, my MR-2 is AWESOME! It does use a large pump, but I have my Iwaki 70 running the skimmer, the return, and the chiller.... So I don't think it is all bad.

MRC skimmers are nice and and I can't say a bad thing about Euro Reef. As for size...i go big but I've never had a tank quite that size and am not up to date on the specs of the new ER models.

Oh here ER specs
Euro-Reef

I had to check our sponsors before I posted ER makes a nice skimmer and they've just improved it by switching to Ehiem pumps..I used one for a few years, did a good job but trying to get replacement parts is a joke, dealing with people there is even a bigger joke. I wouldn't recommend these skimmers just because of the bad customer service they have.

I'm with the R/C Man. If money is no issue go with the Austin Oceans over the MRC. Both are great skimmers but the Austin Oceans has a better design.

The build quality on these is second to none. All 3/8" acrylic and individually tested. Good stuff. I have one on the way. I have 2 calcium reactors, a kalk reactor, and a waste collector.....

Got a picture of your skimmer Scott? I like what I read on there site, but they sure don't give much info on the actual patented venturi they use....

Hopefully that will change soon, that is, what they have posted on their site.

Anyhow, here is a picture which shows a bit of the venturi. I can't speak for the internal workings of it, other than the airline is not attached to the pump, but the plumbing that the input is flowed through. The line itself is covered with an acrylic cylinder, with small holes drilled into the bottom of it allowing the air to enter.

Since we have had our tank running, I have adjusted the skimmer 3 times, 2 times to fine tune it during the intial install, and once about a week ago when I changed the water level in our sump. I have not cleaned the skimmer, or done anything else, and it consistently produces 16oz of brown skimmate daily.

I'll try to get a few better pictures tomorrow.
