with a reef system and the live rock, with wet/dry system sump, do I still need to put filter floss somewhere in the sump or buy a external filter with the filter media there? I'm confused. I have a 40g, live rock and 40lbs of seaflor special...skimmer is in the sump box. Thanks for all your help.

Personally, I don't think it's a bad idea. You want to trap the crud that might be floating around so it doesn't decompose and wreak havoc on your nitrate levels. If you do go with it, just realize you need to clean it and replace it farely often or else it will turn into a Nitrate trap.

I would use just floss somewhere in a high current area in your system. Don't bother with an additional external filter.

Thanks Scott Z, I put some floss in the outside overflow box.
I guess I should rinse this every week? Also should I use a bag with carbon after my system has been up for a while? Last edited by newton27; 12-06-2006 at 05:24 PM. Reason: grammer |
