wet dry
ok i have been told not to run a wet dry in a reef tank looking for some advise they said the nitrate level gets high i need to know so i don't mess up and kill things if i cant use it can i take out the bio balls and run it like a sump that way any help appreciated thanks

A Lot Of People Remove There Bioballs And Put In Rubble Rock Or Small Pices Of Live Rock..........

The\wet dry will work fine as long as you replace the bio balls every year. What happens is the balls trap stuff and it breaks down and releases nitrates back to the system.
If you remove them don't add LR, just more junk to clean out of the sump. i ran a great reef for three years w a wet/dry. I know just hgave a sump and a BIG skimmer! It is up to you! But I'd remove them! |

My reef has been set up since July and all I've got is live rock, a protein skimmer, and some power heads. That's all you really need. The wet/dry bio balls can result in some nitrate nightmares down the line. If I develop problems with my current setup, I'll let you know!
