100 gallon capacity external filter in a 75 gallon tank

Hi,

I plan to setup a 75 gallon tank aquarium and in the store where i plan to buy, i saw two fluvac external filter. 1 is for 100 gallons and the other is 75. Are there benefits to having a much larger capacity pump for the filter or will this have a negative impact on my aquarium.

Thanks,

Mike

PREDICTION: you will get a reply about how fluvals blow for saltwater reefs.
I personally use a fluval 404 for carbon filtration and keeping water quality up. Bigger the pump, the more circulation and interaction with media. I even use the "nitrate bomb" sponge media... just don't let it go w/o changing for more than 2months.

A note on Fluvals

Over all I think Fluvals are good brand and seem to be well built. Only problem is it wasn't enough filtration for my 90 gal. I had a 204 and 304 running and had algea problems and even particles floating on the surface, yes I also had too small of a skimmer. I opt'ed for a sump. Just something to think about.

I also would say for the sump, it will be better in the long run, also you may wanna make it a sump with a refug if you can, I would personally save your money on from the fluval and get a better skimmer. You really don't have to have mech. filtartion.
