Would 4 MaxiJet 1200's attached to a wavemaker be too much flow for my new reef tank? I plan on keeping SPS and LPS corals? I plan on keeping SPS and LPS corals. It will have a wet/dry with in sump protein skimmer on it as well (no bio balls using live rock instead). The return pump for the wet dry is a CAP-2200 which I believe is rated a little over 500 gph.

I would not think that 4 maxi would be too much flow at all. I have a closed loop on my 75 and run 2 Little Giant 4 pumps. I would seriously consider getting a bigger pump for you return, though. The ideal turn over rate for your tank should be around 10 times for what you are wanting to keep. Don't forget to account for the 'head loss' of your pump as well. Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I will look into getting a higher output for the return pump. I have plenty of time apparently. Been trying to get the tank in for a month now. The first one came in cracked and the company hasn't had any more to send to my LFS since then (guess a lot of people got tanks for Christmas).

Not to much flow at all! I would say you will want more then that. I have nearly 30X turnover in my 90, and it has worked very well for me!

I have a 50g tank, 25g sump and i'm running a mag 12 (1250 gph)that is slightly controlled with a ball valve for my return. A mag 10 would have been perfect. I also have a mag 7 for my skimmer and a mag 5 for the chiller. LOTS of flow w/o causing a sand storm. My return is y split with hydors at each end of the tank and uses 3/4 braded hose and pvc fittings. So far its been working great. if you are planning on keeping sps 500gph is not enough for that size system. You are only turning the water over 5 times per hour. My system turns over about 20 times hour.

He had I think over 4. 1 in each corner pointed in various areas pushing water around his live rock. It kept the water flowing and his corals where growing like mad.

Marine Depot. I got the Model 3 which has some issues (leaks current into the tank). From what I have read, the model 2 and 3 both have this problem but models 1 and 4 do not. I am waiting on Hydor to send me info on sending them back for replacement. I was told by Hydor to stop using them until I get the replacements.

I think the Tunze Streams work well for internal water movement, and there is a lot of talk about the Maxi-Jet mods, however it is a DIY project and sometimes people have problems getting it to work.

I just set up an 80 gallon star fire with two seio 1100 on a seio controller with 800 gallon return pump. The flow is good and 2200 GPH on less than 50 watts. Seio or Korlia will produce better flow than the old school powerhead with a on and off timer.
