    DIY Stand and Sump complete

    Hello All,
I posted a thread a while back about sumps and the lessons I learned while designing mine. Its finished, so I thought I would post some pics. I even got courageous over winter break to design and build a stand. It has a full frame made of 2x4's and is covered with 3/4" Oak with trim. Enjoy!, and if anyone likes it and wants the plans or more pictures let me know, i'll be happy to send or post them.
    Sean

Sean, Nice work, but I have a couple of questions.
How large is the tank? I'd like to build a stand for a 150 or 180 and wonder if single 2X4s will provide enough support.
Why did you choose to put a back sheet on the base cabinet?

    Thank you.
Jsheffel you mean the plywood in the back of the cabinet?
I needed to mount my closed loop and UV filter equipment on that back wall. I designed the tank stand to be deeper than the tank. This way I could drill holes for my plumbing to come straight out through the base. When I eventually put it against a wall, the back of the stand will be flush.
The tank is a 90 gallon. I believe you could use 2x4's for the frame. You would probably need to make angle braces though, for added rigidity.

Thanks. That makes sense. I wonder if it's going to trap heat from the equipment though. Is it ventilated?

Your right, it does trap some heat. The tank temp. has raised about a half degree. I need to watch this closely in the summer. Good point.
