new guy here

ok im not starting a tank any time soon but starting to do my homework. Im definately looking at doing a full blown reef tank with fish and a sump. Im curious though, my LFS' totallly suck and i cant find any predrilled aquariums anywhere. So im guessing i can go buy a tank, im looking at 75-90gal., and taking it somewhere locally to get a overflow drilled. So even if i can do that how do i know what size it needs to be? 1"? 3/4"? Do i need holes drilled for the return(s) or just dump it over the side? I guess if it goes up over the tank then there wont be any backflow if the pump ever fails. Are the returns used for actual flow or just to return water and then you use power heads for flow? Im really trying to keep the tank aestheticly as clean as possible. I understand i need an overflow at the top of the tank, probably centered right? But how far below the top should the hole be? And if i do water changes using the overflow how do you change much water if the hole is only a few inches down from the top of the tank? Anyone have any links to different setup diagrams using sumps?

I'm curious to where in Indy are you,
lots of nice aquarium shops set up in Illinois.

however, I believe drilling would be pretty simple , if the right DIY person answers you,

My overflows are built in (Thank God)
