ro/di water
Ok i have a really stupid question about ro di water. I apparently don't understand how they work. I want to do a saltwater aquarium but we are on a well and i know that i will need ro/di water. i don't really want to purchase it from the store, but i don't understand the whole filter process. is there waste water that is just flushed down the drain. being on a well, i don't want to waste a bunch of water. can someone tell me how they work and what would be the best idea?

There will be waste water with any RO/DI unit, in fact with mine there is about 3 of 4 gallons of waste, but it is critical to use RO/DI water for any saltwater tank IMO.

Is waste water from an RO/DI unit harmful to humans? Or can it be recycled?
I don't own one yet but will be purchasing one in the near future.

I don't think it would be my preferred drinking water, but I have heard of people saving waste water to water their plants, etc. Personally, I don't think it is worth saving and chalk it up as an expense of the hobby.

My RO/DI unit is in my basement along with a small laundry room so I run my waste water into my washer when needed. I also keep a couple of gallons around the house to water the plants with. Just seems like too much of a waste not to put some of it to use.
