Fluval 405 question
It seems like everytime I clean my fluval and prime it as per the instructions and plug it in millions of tiny air bubbles come shooting out of the outlet tube. Does anyone know what causes this? Will this cause problems with the fish as too much oxygen is around the tank?
I do plan on switching over to a sump in the near future, I will be able to lose my dreaded fluval right? so long as I put some sort of mechanical filtration in the sump? |

Re: Fluval 405 question
Most people have adopted the ideology of Fish only with live rock (and a protein skimmer) as a more natural form of filtration. With the addition of a sump you can include a refugium (which contains macro algae). The algae use nitrates.... Mechanical filtration tends to be an accumulation area for detritus and a nitrate factory unless cleaned every couple days....

Re: Fluval 405 question
I like fluval. works for me. don't bother with the bio section. I run purigen and chemipure in mine. If yer using the filter pads - you'll have to change them to prevent the infamous nitrate bomb. (ps I have a refuge but it won't handle chem warfare from sps) aFa bubbles... had that issue too. the prob is you have to empty out the to/from lines completely, then make sure the outlet is completely out of the water(I mean above water line), then prime till you see water, then restart. Once I learned that - works like a charm.
good luck |
