Help Please ..........
Hi Everone,
I am about to take delivery a new tank Size 60" x 24" x 24" for a reef aquarium. I am new to this and have been told that the tank's volume ranges from 150 uk gallons to 275 uk gallons. Can someone please give me a definate and accurate volume which I will need for estimating how much live rock to buy etc. Thank You Larry |

Re: Help Please ..........
Larry,
You asked your question in U.K. gallons but Blennie gave you the answer in U.S. gallons. Be aware that 149.6 U.S. gallons = 124.6 U.K. gallons. Furthermore, both of those figures represent volume based on the exterior dimensions of the tank itself and not the actual maximum volume of water than the tank can hold after allowing for the thickness of the glass, the bottom frame (on glass tanks) and the maximum height of the water column, etc. However, common convention in the hobby calls for stating tank volumes based on exterior dimensions. One U.S. manufacturer of acrylic tanks (Tenecor) does use the actual water volume when listing their tanks. For example, their U770 tank measures 120"x36"x48" and they give the volume as 770 gallons rather than 898 gallons. That's because they are allowing for the 1" thick acrylic and the overflow compartment. If you take the exterior dimensions (120x36x48=207,360/231=898 gallons) you would get 898 gallons but they advertise that tank as 770 gallons.
