Pump Suggestions
I have a 72g tank and currently have a Rio 32H, which is rated at 1920 gph @ 1ft head .It seems noisy. What's a good replacement?

Re: Pump Suggestions
For inexpensive, reliable pumps I like the Mag Drives. For something compariable to that output, look at the Mag 18. However if that is a return pump from the sump, seems like 1800gph is a lot for a 72 gallon.

Re: Pump Suggestions
I agree with Scott, it is hard to beat a MAG drive pump. I would recommend a MAG12, I had 2 of them in the past and they were great!

Re: Pump Suggestions
For a return pump 1920 gph is way to much. I'd suggest a pump thats flow matches your protein skimmer's pump. This way all of the water is processed by the skimmer, and you don't waste all that electricity for head loss. You can make up for the extra flow by using a closed loop or by using stronger powerheads.
As for the Mag pumps I'd have to disagree. I've had many problems with them not starting. Eheim pumps are much better, but they don't make them for the flow rate that you wanted. They do however have nice sized pumps for a 72 gallon return IMO. |
