Ozone Necessary?

I bought a Ozone/Redox controller for my tank in hopes of adding ozone. However, I've had the redox controller running for several weeks and see that my redox is about 405. Will I get much by adding ozone?

Re: Ozone Necessary?

you wouldn't want to go much higher then 405..Have you done any kind of calibration on the probe?

FWIW, I went for years without ozone on my reef tanks..My current tank is one big failure, ozone didn't help me at all.

Re: Ozone Necessary?

No, I haven't calibrated it. I'll get some solution to check it out.

Re: Ozone Necessary?

I would think at 405 you have no need for it. But, I would definately check to see if it is calibrated correctly and clean.

I love my ozonator. Although it is currently turned off, I turn it on every once in a while just because.

I used it a lot when my tank was solid green. It cleared it up in a hurry and the water had never looked cleaner. I wouldnt do another tank without it. In fact, I would rather run a tank on ozone only and no skimmer!

Re: Ozone Necessary?

IMO, UV is MUCH safer in a small tank (less than 1,000 gallons).

Re: Ozone Necessary?

I would only worry about ozone if you are not running carbon and don't have it on a controller.
