Moving an exsisting Setup
I am new to this hobby. I am still in the "research phase" of things and still trying to decided if its the right one for me. As such i have a question.
How do you move an existing system? I have seen alot of information on setting up a new system but none on moving an existing one. All the info on setting up a new one says to let the tank sit with out live stock for a period of time. This obviously wont do if there is livestock already as in the case of an existing system. I ask for 2 reasons. One, i am a PhD student who lives in university housing. So in 2 years i will have to move. Also ive been looking at craigs list to try and find a deal on equipment, and ive noticed that some times there are people looking to sell full systems livestock and all. I was wondering if that was a good idea. |

Re: Moving an exsisting Setup
Here's a solid thread I've referenced a few times- I've moved my setup four (five?) times in the last four years- if you have any more questions, just ask.
Moving a tank????

Re: Moving an exsisting Setup
Not trying to tell you what to do but... If you're moving in two years... I think I'd skip the whole salt water aquarium for now. Moving an established aquarium is a pain in the a$$. It causes a lot of stress to you & the fish, especially if the move is out of state. With the average price of most marine fish being $30 - $100 per fish, loosing one due to a move can be very depressing! Or- you could do a nano tank... at least the whole nano could be moved in a plastic tote.
I've moved a few 55 gallon+ tanks, and it took an entire day to complete the swap... and that was a local move.
