Under substrate heater.

I found this product on the internet and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on it.

Its an under substrate heating wire.

Hydorkable Heating Cable - Pet Solutions

at first it seemed cool, but then i figured it might be a bad idea to use with a deep sand bed.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Under substrate heater.

Doesn't seem worthwhile to me. It is costly and if there is a problem them your really in trouble. I would go for a good quality submersible heater instead, although I do not have any direct experience with this device.

Re: Under substrate heater.

I believe those a bit more specialized for the freshwater planted aquarium. I'm not sure how having warm roots helps, but I've seen claims that it helps your plants grow more quickly. Seems like more trouble than it is worth in other tanks.
