Blowing money left and right E-I-E-I-O

I went out and bought a bunch of stuff in the last week thanks to my uncontrolable impatience. I am determined to do this right this time.

For my top off I decided to go with a Tunze Osmolator with a 6 gallon pail, it should keep me ok for about 4 days. in my current tank I have to top off 3 times a day because my return section is so small. I know I could have gotten something cheaper and more simple but what the HAY!

I also picked up a phosphate reactor with Rowaphos. Woo hoo!

Then for the sump I will have a 65 watt 10000k fluorescent, I have yet to find Macroalgae though.

I also got a magnetic bracket for my Tunze Turbelle, I hate those crappy brackets that come with it.

That's about it for now, I might get a bigger sump now that I'm not limited to putting it under the cabinet, The one I have is a 25 gallon but it only has 15 gallons in it. The sump closet is 58"X22" so I should be able to add a bigger sump with no problem.

hmmmmm.............
It's still not here ninety nine bottles of beer on the wall, ninety nine bottles of beeeeeeeer

Thanks, glad I didn't waste my $$$
Now I'm trying to find a way to dose my 2 part solutions by drip method, any ideas?

It would be easier to add Kalk to your osmolator. Just mix it up ahead of time, add only the dissolved water to your topoff bucket, and POOF instant Ca and Alk additive. No more 2 part... And Kalk is way less expensive, here is where I have purchased some in the past.

Re: Blowing money left and right E-I-E-I-O

I can't seem to find that stuff up here in Canada, I guess we don't do much pickling
Either way I have a 40 pound bag of dowflakes (for Randy's 2 part...) so I'm thinking on using that for a while, seem to work great but it's a PITA when you forget to add it.
At first I though I could use 2- I.V. bags with drip regulators but my sister in law is a nurse and she says those are a thing of the past and it's all electronic now so there goes that idea
Anyone know where to get outdated hospital stuff?

Well it is seasonal, and I don't think this is the right time of year. Maybe you can order it online somewhere, I am sure it is sold in Canada!

Re: Blowing money left and right E-I-E-I-O

Have Kevinpo send you some!! I don't know, can you ship that stuff across the border?
Sounds like you made some good purchases though. It is kind of strange, this hobby doesn't let money stick around long.
For a Kalk drip, I just used an old salt bucket, drilled a hole about 1.5" above the bottom and fitted it with a john guest valve, and ran clear tubing into the sump. I adjusted the amount of the drip with the valve. It wasn't to scientific, but it worked!! HTH

Won't that plug it up after a while? or is it easily cleaned, I haven't even unpacked it yet, not sure how it works

Hey there, sorry about that, I never got an e-mail notification!! I used to drip kalk and dose calcium, I had too. In fact, I dripped kalk 24/7, about 4 gallons every 2 days. I still had to buffer also with baking soda and washing soda mix, 6:1. Once you get sps to growing, the need for calcium and alkalinity monitoring is important.

As long as you only let the clear water into the osmolator I think you will be fine. There are several local reefers around me that use the Osmolator with Kalk...

Guess what, I had to go to the vet's today so they could play with my dog's butt (she has bum gland problems poor little Lily) and I asked about those drip things with a regulator and lo and behold!! they still use them, anyways she sold me a couple for pretty cheap, now I just have to figure out how I'll be using them and I'll be good to go!

Also I figured out what fish I will have in the new tank:
Already have:

2 yellow clown gobies
1 ocellaris (sp?) clown
1 ornate sand sifting goby
1 coral beauty
1 mandarin

Would like to add:
1 ocellaris (sp?) clown
3-4 Bartletts anthias

is this OK for a 90 gallon?

The fish I still have that with be traded in are my poor Mr. Ed the Naso and my 6 chromissssss' that are always hiding now because the biggest one (don't know if it's male or female) is always chasing so they are only out in the open for feeding. It's been like that for a couple of months now.
At least I found a good place for Mr. Ed.

When I start to set up I will post a new pic everyday...

I think you would be right on the ragged edge with those weez. To bad you had to get rid of Ed

You had better give us a pic everyday, it will be just like your Larson cartoons.

Re: Blowing money left and right E-I-E-I-O

Mr Ed isn't gone yet, I'm holding on to him right to the end, it's gonna be tough when the time comes. he's so tame now that he eats from my hand. I ususally hand feed him the chunk of nori that's still inside the clip but I have to hold on really tight cuz he can really yank hard!

Re: Blowing money left and right E-I-E-I-O

ya he's really dangerous! and his 6 teeth are really sharp too!
Just goofing off too, actually I have 2 of those little beasts, Lily just turned 10 and Spike will be 9 in september. He's about as dangerous as a fly, Lily on the other hand is a nasty little B%@ch! but we're used to her the way she is. Doesn't make much difference how mean she is cuz they both hardly have any teeth left
Here's a pic of them both. Spikes pics was during his modeling days when my daughter was making dog clothes It's one of his less humiliating pics
