    Remora Skimmer Question

We have a 46 gallon saltwater tank and have had pretty good success balancing the water. We use an Enheim Pro II Filter and have introduced three fish (Blue tang, Dot-Dash Butterfly and a Mertensii Butterfly)over the past 2 months. At the recommendation of many, I installed a Remora Pro Hang-on Skimmer this afternoon. We noticed right away that a great many micro-bubbles were going back into my tank (user manual indicated this could happen for up to 2 weeks). After about 10 minutes, my Mertensii Butterfly started swimming around in a panic (almost like she could not breath). For the moment, I have shut down the skimmer in hopes to get some guidance from this group. Any thoughts?

    Re: Remora Skimmer Question

When I installed mine I only had a few microbubbles. Perhaps try taking everything out and washing it again with warm water and then rinsing very well with RO water, just don't use any soap. It may or may not help.

If it doesn't fill up a 5 gallon bucket with water and let the skimmer run on that for a couple of weeks to get all the production coatings and such out of it. Mine definitely starting skimming better and got much quieter after the first week or two of operation.

Also read up on the tang. It might not be appropriate for your tank.
