Leaking Eheim Pro II
If I could easily lift it, I'd drop kick it out the window.
I've owned it for a year and it is leaking worse and worse. Anyone have any tips? The leak is around where the top sits down on the base. The top is the motor. The top is held on by the corner clips. I have cleaned the gasket, greased the gasket according to Eheim instructions (using Eheim grease), replaced the gasket, and tried about every combo of 'voodoo' I can think of to get it to stop leaking. It remained dry a bone, without a single drop of leaking for several months, then slowly but surely. Now it won't stop and it comes out about two cups an hour. Eheim has no suggestions; my LFS has no suggestions; so I turn to the reader. If you have the Eheim Professional II 2128 (or the 2028 is similar enough), does it leak any and how did you get it to stop leaking? Thanks in advance!

Re: Leaking Eheim Pro II
When was the last time you replaced the gasket?
Seems to me that it is shrinking over time and causing the leak. Gaskets can be funny about that. They will shrink over time and some do it quicker than others. I did find THIS and THIS and a few others. Seems to be a common problem maybe? Last edited by FireEater; 07-12-2007 at 08:48 AM. |

Re: Leaking Eheim Pro II
Thank you Mark. I think those references were a help.
I've replaced the gasket/ring so I don't think that's the issue. I'm coming to believe that the plastic clips, though a convenience in maintenance, are not good for the long haul. I am beginning to think that they are 'weakening' or relaxing, like fatiguing metal. I think they are no longer holding the lid on with the same tension they did when new. I could replace the clips, but part of the system is also the plastic 'bar' that the clip holds on to which I think takes most of the stress. If that bar is also fatiguing or is the only part fatiguing, then the new clips won't help. At least I'm not the only one. One comes to trust a company like Eheim. I guess the name doesn't count for a lot in the long haul.
