Cleaning the water surface
How should I or what should I use to clean the water surface? How well do surface skimmer work>? Will that attach to 3/4 hose?

Surface skimmers work very well, but have to be connected to something. In the meantime you could point a powerhead towards the surface.

and towards the overflow, othewise youll have a corner full of junk

Agitation is the best way to clear the surface. Are you also running a skimmer?
