Power Question

Hi all,

I have a couple of tanks and a lot of equipment attached to it running for 4 years. today I noticed a dead fish and put my hands in to grab it. On the way out I got electrocuted and dropped the fish.

So there is a power leak somewhere. I powered everything off. Now my plan is to power one thing at a time until I find out the source of the leak.

My question is what is the best way to test power (without putting my hands in water!) in water when I turn equipment on?

Thanks,
Nasser

Re: Power Question

Nasser,

It's a shocking discovery!!! The test you only need a voltage meter. You need to unplug each piece one at a time until you find the culprit. Mag pumps are notorious for doing this. The seals around the cords turn hard due to Saltwater and Lighting. I would start there.
You also need to get you a ground probe not too expensive and can be found online.
Find the piece of equipment quickly or it will continue to kill you fish, sps, etc.
Keep us informed how it goes.

Re: Power Question

The best way to run grounding probes is to have two of them. One for the display and one for the sump. The titanium ones are best and can be made out of bicycle spokes but I don't have any idea how to do it. The ones I use can be found here.
