Re: Returns and the siphon break

Thanks jsheffel, I appreciate it. It cost somewhere around $110 by the time I bought the Mag 9.5. The sextagon chambers are actuall the $20 one gallon aquariums you can buy at the store. The round shower drain at the bottom is no longer there. I made the whole bigger and glued the two pieces together. The bulkhead slip screen is not on it either. The beckett makes some small bubbles and it rolls like crazy in the reaction chamber..... Here's a pic.

Re: Returns and the siphon break

Is it producing wet swamp water looking skimmate or thick muddy sludge?

You're curing your rock with it aren't ya?

Re: Returns and the siphon break

It's more of a muddy sludge. Half of the rock was straight from my tank, the other half I killed and cleaned it. What does the difference in the skimmate mean?

A good skimmate thread:

How do you adjust your skimmer?

Wow,
I would love to see more pics of that DIY skimmer and know how it is working for you. I assume it sits outside the sump. Might try to build one of those myself. That is a lot cheaper than buying one off the shelf.

Re: Returns and the siphon break

I have it inside the sump. I would like it outside but since it was my first diy, I didn't trust myself enough to leave it outside... lol. It did wonderful in my rock tank. It took out tons of sludge. It is also doing great in my tank now and takes out quiet a bit of waste for what's in there now... I think there's pics at the first of the "my tank build" forum... I'll make sure, if not i'll get some pics on here for you.

Re: Returns and the siphon break

Just checked and no pics in the build thread. And since I would like a good bit of info in case I tackle this, can you post more pics in a DIY thread. This one really doesn't address skimmers.

Thanks!
