My Tank Build

Here is some pics of what i've been working for the last couple of months... I will get some pics of the stand I built tomorrow...... Let me know what you think....

Overflow before foam and paint. The pieces of pvc are for corals

After foam and paint

Whole tank before paint. The rocks are there for weight as well as each one has a great "ledge" to attach corals to.

Sometimes people are slow to post replies here Kyle. I think it looks amazing. All that planning and hard work is going to pay off big time. I'm excited for you. Keep updating and you'll get some kudos for sure.

Re: My Tank Build

Question for everyone. What is the best way to do the water? set it all up with water from the faucet and then drain it all? Or go ahead and fill it with RO water and then drain most of it and put the salt in? Give me an idea here someone....

Re: My Tank Build

It looks really good Kyle!! Chuck is right, sometimes we are kinda slow.

I would water test it with tap water, make sure you don't have any leaks in your plumbing. If everything is OK, drain it and go for the salt version.

Re: My Tank Build

That is a great looking cabinet! Be sure to post some pictures when it is completed.

I agree with Charlie. Water test the system with tap water for a couple of days, drain the system completely, fill with RO/DI and get it running again, and then begin to add salt.

Re: My Tank Build

Thanks guys! The cabinet is done, I will try to get a pic of it up tonight to show everyone. My tank has been curing for 6 days (fusion paint). I wanted to be sure it was cured. I will probably flush it out tonight and then put it on the stand to plumb it. Pics to come soon!

Re: My Tank Build

This is the bottom of the tank showing the egg crate and also the rock stand that has since been covered with foam and paint. I want as much open sand as I can get plus this will be a 2 or 3 inch cave for fish to get under the rocks to hide and swim through....

Re: My Tank Build

Is that stand going to be hidden by your rockwork?

Re: My Tank Build

Yes, It is now covered with foam (the legs that is) to look like rock. I will have rock in front of each leg and rocks on top. You will not be able to see it at all or even know it's there.

Re: My Tank Build

Here is the thing in my living room...... It's a wreck in there, please don't mention it to my wife. It's a touchy subject right now!!! LOL
Anyway, I've began plumbin it. Here is the pic, just ignore the mess!

Here is the fans I installed in the top of the canopy. The first motors were way to weak so I got new fans, took the motors out of them and put them in the casing for the old ones already mounted in the top of the canopy. The two white knobs are the speed switches I took off the back and mounted through the wood. These babies blow harder than my ceiling fan! I'll have no problem with the lights gettin hot or coolin the water down quick!
