Sump/Refugium Questions!!

We have a newish 60 gallon 48" reef tank (ok the reef and reef lights aren't quite there yet, but we're close)
we have a good 80lbs of live rock for bio filtration

we have uber crappy all in one sump/skimmer/filter trickle down style like Renas with an overflow box. It works, but only by the bare minimal definition of working. (TOM aquatic rapid pro series p3)
we got a chiller so we have a mag 500 pump which can push water up to our tank plus the pump that came in the crappy sump/filter/skimmer HOWEVER the new chiller pump doesn't fit in the tightly packed sump/filter/skimmer unit.

Looking closer into reef setup, we realize the importance of these units working well, so I think we might want to upgrade.

I want to get/make a 10-20 gallon sump/refugium and get a separate canister filter if necessary (we only need some carbon and some sponges - I did notice you suggest against this but I am not sure what else to use- prefilters? so if those can fit in the refugium cool, if not it's ok)

our stand has 9" of horizontal space for cabinet openings, so hopefully that is wide enough for the basic unit.

I get that it needs three parts, the spillways, and room for a skimmer and pump.

we need to incorporate the chiller pump, (the filtration-optional), return pump (if this isn't the same as the chiller pump), and the skimmer into a sump/refugium that will fit in our space.

I do need a protien skimmer in it- that can be purchased separately as well though- maybe a mini G? not sure what is good for my setup- want inexensive but good quality and easy to maintenance

so the things we have that need to be included (ie- if i can get a refugium without these parts and add them in that'd be ideal)

1 mag 500 pump
1 overflow box
1 pump that came in all-in-one unit (probably not as good quality as mag, so if one should go, it will probably be this one, though as I understand it, more flow is a good thing) though we will take care of that separately with powerheads/wavemaker for the corals)
1 chiller (cant run AC all the time and we have 2 computers in the room with the tank and we are in Southern Cal, it gets too hot, I imagine it will get even hotter when we put the reef lights in)
carbon media bag and sponge pad thing (for trickle down- I guess the equiv of a sock?)

I imagine a 15ish gallon 3 section acrylic refugium about 8" wide and I dunno maybe 10 inches tall with holes/plumbing for the intake from an overflow box (unless sumps are usually filled some other way- our overflow box seems to work ok..), room for a skimmer, space for macroalgae stuff, and then a section for the return pump (which hopefully we will not have to buy another!) If a separate canister filter is not needed, perhaps I can incorporate media bag placement into this.

First- stop me if I misunderstood the design or purpose of some of these elements and don't need them, or if you have overall better setup ideas

What would you suggest- premade acrylic box refugium style? DIY? Have it special made?
Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated

thank you so much for reading and helping me setup a happy reef tank
