Pump help

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and I have some questions about pumps from experiance y'all have had. I've got a 24 gallon tank that I am adding a 10 gallon sump to. According to information I've looked at, it would seem that I need a pump capable of about + or - 340 g/h. The pump will have to negotiate about 40" of vertical with 2 90 degree bends and 2 45 degree bends, or instead possibly 4 90 degree bends. So the way I figure it, that's a corrected 6 foot head. So, long story short it looks like I need a pump capable of 340 g/h at a 6 foot head. I am looking at the following pumps, but I would like some input from people that have used similar pumps or the same brands and have had good or bad experiances.

Little Giant 2-MDQX-SC
Pan World Magnetic (not sure which model to use, can't seem to find a performance chart for it. 40px or 50px)
Turbo-Sea High Pressure Pump 586 g/h model
Supreme Mag Drive 700 GPH model
Blueline Velocity T1 or T2 Model (can't find performance charts on these either)
Iwaki MD20RLT
Ocean Runner 2500
Quiet One 2200
Mag Drive 5 (I think might be the same thing as a Supreme Mag Drive 700 GPH model but I'm not sure.)

I like the Mag 7 as an option here. Place a ball valve somewhere on the output just in case you need to throttle it back a bit.

Thanks for the reply. The Mag 7 is definately in my top 5 list, but I am worried about some reviews I read where people are saying that the Mag series of pumps run very hot. Some other reviews were saying that the pump is noisey, but I suppose if you get any pump that is about the same size I would assume they all would make some noise. It's that heat I am worried about, I live in TX, and in the summer we keep the house at about 82 degrees. I don't know how much it would raise the temperature of the water, but if it's 1 or 2 degrees that would be fine. I just don't want to come home from work one day and find a nice hot fish stew, you know.

I would suggest the Eheim first choice, better made will have less troubles long term but second the Mag, cheaper. Small sump so you don't need to move much water, & do like mentioned & add the BV. The Eheim will self start a Little more reliably, less heat (at this size not much issue with either pump) & less power consumption, weigh the cost difference & If not much go Eheim JMO you don't have much to loose either way. Sounds at this size won't also be much of a problem, when you get larger then you have to consider this more so.

First thing first...what kind of overflow are you using? Can you drill the sump so you can run the pump external?

Little tank that size, I'd probably not drill them because most glass is on the thin side, acrylic yea maybe so. Yet another good point to consider! Unless this tank is already factory drilled as in those nano cubes or the types called reef ready or if is a custom tank.

Thanks for the replys. The top tank cannot be drilled, I was going to buy a continous siphon overflow box for it. I saw a few models online here from reefland sponsors that look alright, but to be perfectly honest I haven't really done a ton of research on which is the best yet, if anyone has any suggestions for it, I will be more than happy to listen. For the sump I was just going to buy one of those cheap 10 dollar 10 gallon tanks and use it for a sump. I suppose I could buy some sheets of acrylic and glue them together and use acrylic, then drill it, if an external pump is that much better to warrant it. I don't like drilling glass, and I doubt that anyone would have a drilled 10 gallon sump for any kind of reasonable price. So I've got one vote for the mag and one vote for the eheim looks like eh? Maybe I should have added a poll to this thread.

I have seen 10g tanks drilled & worked fine, I drilled my 60G sump to 2" for 12 bucks! I don't think it is necessary or desirable on such a small system, just my opinion & through my own experiences I find it easy to drop in a submersible for the return & have less to deal with as for as plumbing goes, now on large systems yes but even then If I had to redo mine & might consider using a drop in for many reasons (one is on a 125g Inside the house with all the equipment you want three things, less noise, less power consumption as a 24/7 running pump will use More power than your average lighting, & three Heat), IMO you don't need high flow through the sump. I find that a bad idea over having tank flow as in a closed loop or something like a tunze stream pump, I always consider these two different types of flow, one sump & other main display internal flow both serving separate purposes, trying to get it all in one isn't the best way to go about this IMO again, failures of one completely shuts you down for one reason.
On the overflow been a while since I dealt with these & will let that to those who use them & maybe learn what is working better these days, that would be something I'd want to really look into getting right because of the inherited nature of things going wrong with any of them.

That's cool, I didn't know that drilling was so inexpensive. The only experiance I've actually had with cutting any kind of glass is with a glass cutter that etches the line & then snapping it, and using a dremel on a project I was making for something else, but that was more of sanding the sharp edges so they are round. I think I will go with a submersible pump though, because of some measuring I did I think I'll have space issues if I don't use a submersible pump.

Mag 7 about $60

Quiet One 2200 about $42

I read that the Eheim & Mag pumps run hot, but I've actually heard of them, and I hear a lot of good about them too,
I haven't heard of the Ocean Runner or Quiet One pumps before, people seem to be saying that they run cooler, but people are also saying that they make clicking noises are all kinds of strange things.
I know that a lot of times what you pay for is what you get, but I also know that sometimes you're just paying for the name. I don't mind paying $120 for a pump, but I don't want to pay $120 if the $50 pump is actually the same or even better.
