Air, Water & Ice RO/DI is leaking

I just received my compact reefkeeper and installed it today. I put it in and noticed it was leaking a little around the top of the vertical containers. I tightened them down but the third one is still leaking. I haven't "cranked down" on them, not sure that is a good idea. When I first hooked it up, I had it on the hot water as I thought someone had said that was the thing to do. I only ran it that way for about an hour, so I don't think I messed the seals up or anything. Anyone have any idea what to try? If I can't get it to stop, I will have to call them Monday I guess.

Re: Air, Water & Ice RO/DI is leaking

So I'm guessing I should consider another brand?

Please let us know what's up with this when you find out something. I'm on the search for an RO/DI, but don't want any issues (not that you did either, but I think you know what I mean).

    I wish I could help.

I don't think it has anything to do with brand as I have heard real good feedback on them, that is one reason I went with them. I'll keep you updated.

The only thing you may have messed up with the hot water is the RO membrane. I would give them a call and see what they say.
I think the ideal temp for making water is about 70 degrees, that way it doesn't hurt the membrane, and it should increase the production of clean water. JMHO

Take the vertical canisters off and make sure each filter has the rubber fittings on each end. I turn them until I can't turn them any more....they get pretty snug with the unit. You can use that filter wrench if you need to but I usually hand tighten them.

Re: Air, Water & Ice RO/DI is leaking

Thanks for the advice. I think it is OK since I didn't run too much hot water through it, seems to still read zero on TDS. I took one canister off and put it back on. Seemed to help. I then noticed that the fitting was leaking above it. So what may be happening is that the fitting above each end canister is leaking and running down. Once I finish making this batch of water, I think I will pull it down and apply new teflon tape to the fittings.

There ya go, it is good to have your ducks all in a row before you get like me, and make the phone call only to find out that something is hooked up backwards.

Another note on cutting 1/4" od tubing for fittings. The cleaner the cut through it the better off you are. If it's not even or jagged in any way it has a tendency to leak. I think a razor knife is the best route to take with them.
