Can I add a feed the sump for a exsiting bulk head drilled half way down the thwe back of tank ? I have a 60gal flat back hex with IFS in the back of the tank, It came with the inlet an out let bulkheads all ready in the were to be used with a canaster filter for use with carbon etc.... Is the somthing that can control the water flow into the sump ? or I'm I just totaly off base hear |

The way you could do it is on the inside of the bulkhead build a 90 elbow then plumb almost straight up to the top of the water line and add you a overflow strainer to control the waterflow level and on the outside of the bulkhead just plumb straight down (angle where needed) to the sump and on the return to the sump right after the output of the pump you would put a ball valve on to control your waterflow into the sump. Remember the level of the o-flow strainer controls the water level in the main tank, the ballvalve on the output side of the pump controls how much water is run through the sump, this also usually helps on the bubbles in the main display as well as "gurgling" sounds. You can also put a ball valve on the input side of the tank however it should NEVER be closed except when you have the pump off (like replacing the pump, so you wont pour water everwhere) HTH ![]()

Re: rookie intrested in adding a sump
I ntrigrated F ilter s ystem Old Tiwn Aquiram in Chicago makes these tanks the have the wet/dry and P-Skimmer built into the tank. I just wonder how good thew p-skimmer is it's a aprox 2.5" plexi tub with a rio 600 with the air line atached angd a cup on top, it dose pull skum out of the water....I'm slowly removing the bio balls (nitrates are always come back to aprox 40)form the back, and Have added 15lbs of new live rock in the desplay. I was thinking of I added a sump I could add a better skimmer more rock and additional warter could not hurt.
The bulk head In question has a canister filetr running with only carbon in it. |
