Hi im new to this sight and saltwater aquariums in general. I have had my tank set up for about 4-5 months now. I have a 55g and i am wanting to add a skimmer that I will be able to use in a 75g with a sump next year. I like the coralife super skimmer and that is what my pet shop recomended. I am wanting to get some opinions on sizing and other brands. My question is would I be ok with the bigger skimmer i think 220g or should i stay with a 125 g and will that be enough for a 75g later? I need a hang on right now for my 55 and would like to use the same in a sump if i can later? Is this a good brand or is there something better? I read a few threads on this skimmer on here also.

Most of the people would recommend the AquaC brand skimmers. I've never used one from them, so I can't help you there.

However, I do have the 220g Super Skimmer. I originally bought it knowing I'm going to eventually put it on my 90g build (with a 30g sump) and it would work well there.

However, I currently have it on my 46g bow front until my 90 build is done. It's working pretty darn well for me at this time. Now, admittedly I'm just using it in "HOB" mode for now on the 46g, so it is putting some bubbles in there and surging here and there. I just think it's a little too much for the 46, but it's workin'.

I think for your application it would work fine. This is the only skimmer I've used to date, so I'm definitely not up on all of the info, but I can say it's workin' for me.

I don't think you can over skim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would suggest the Remora Pro for what you are thinking. It is a hang on model and works great. I have had one on my 80 for about 4 years now, and it has never failed!!!!

I agree ... aqua c Mine's using an mag 7 so i'm overskimming my 40b.

I can see you're looking for a budget type skimmer, you may wanna take a look at the Octopus Skimmer.

No budget skimmer just one that will be a hang on now and a sump later.

Ok so I saw a 90 gal on display and have done a 180 and want a sump only skimmer big enough for a 90 gal what type of skimmer is going to be a plug and go good quality skimmer. Local pet shop said a Euro Skimmer
