Red face Need help w/skimmer install

I know I will sound stupid but, I just received my new RemoraC hang on skimmer with Mag 3 pump. Does anyone have photos of what this is supposed to look like installed? The pump is really big and they only give about 2 inches of 3/4" flexible hose to attach it to the skimmer. It doesn't even seem to sit on the skimmer, flush, just looks awkward. I thought maybe I could buy a bigger hose and move some rock around to put it on the bottom of the tank behind some rock. Anyone have photos of how the pump looks inside the tank or at least attached to the skimmer? I have a 29G tank and plan on upgrading at some point, thus the larger skimmer/pump. I don't have a problem with installing the skimmer, have plenty of room on back and top of tank but the pump is another story. It's really going to look ugly sitting there.

Re: Need help w/skimmer install

I don't have any pictures but it is pretty simple. Attach the pump to the skimmer using the hose and then just hang the unit on the tank. The pump does just kind of hang unless you have the pre-filter box and then the pump sits in it. Here is the PDF Manual:

Re: Need help w/skimmer install

Thanks for your response Scott. I did have the manual but they didn't show any pictures of how the pump is supposed to look. Here is my first try:

Here is my tank with new flexible tube that I replaced to hide pump behind LR at bottom on tank. I don't like the look of the way the LR is but at least I don't have a huge eye sore in my tank now.

Re: Need help w/skimmer install

Yeah the pump is big and bulky to be hanging in a small tank. I would worry a little bit about the slight head pressure added to the pump from being placed lower in the tank and impacting the performance of the skimmer.

Re: Need help w/skimmer install

i just bought the remora pro with the mag 3. i have the same problem. the pump is a bit unsightly... so i was pondering possibly setting it up as follows. well i guess its an attatchment. basically the pump would sit out side of the tank. problem is i'm not sure if the pump is capable of drawing water. any thoughts?

Re: Need help w/skimmer install

It says on the side of the box that the Mag3 "pumps 10 1/2' high". I would assume that it means that you can put the pump in another tank or sump otherwise, why would you need it to pump that high? You are not going to have a 10' deep tank, right? It is my plan also when I upgrade to put the pump in my sump. I have had the skimmer in my tank less than a week and it looks like I already have skimmate in the collection cup, not much but some. When the injector is spraying, it makes a little noise. Not sure if that will go away. Is yours installed? How is the noise level?

Re: Need help w/skimmer install

Yea mine is installed and on day 2 it already produced some skimmate. as for the noise... definitely noticeable. kind of a gurgling hissing noise. the microbubbles are still pouring into the tank but as of yet i'm not real concerned about that. Im more curious if removing the pump from the tank wouldn't help with some of the noise to at least stop it from annoying the fish.

Re: Need help w/skimmer install

My pump is not making any noise except for a slight hum which is bearable. It's the skimmer, I guess it's the injector that sprays the water. Seems like the water level goes up and down in that chamber and as the water sprays and the water goes down, it makes kind of a loud well, spraying noise, hard to explain. The micro bubbles have calmed down some and I don't really have much skimmate yet but when I lift the lid, there are bubbles coming up the tube (not white) and a little brown juice looking stuff in the cup. Can't wait to get some real gunk in there.
