Here we go again (new tank question)

After going full tilt in the hobby about 7 years ago and ending with a 180 gallon reef tank I got out of the hobby. Well the bug is calling again and I am looking at getting back into it. Here is my question.

I am currently looking at a 120 gallon fw tank in the paper (these are few and far between in my town), and am wondering what the fair value would be. It's been a while since I've purchased a tank and am out of date.

It is a 120 gallon oceanic black seal with a black stand and a 6 or 8 light (can't remember which), standard florescent light strips. It comes with heaters, external power filter, gravel, maybe a C02 setup. It is currently housing discus and some live plants. I have an empty 45 gallon sitting right now and will probably move some of the system to it. Obviously the only thing thing that will be worthwhile for my new reef project is the tank and stand.

I am supposed to meet the owner tomorrow or Sunday to look at it, but he describes the glass at around an 8.5 with a few but not terrible scratches. He has had the tank for about 4-5 years.

What would you think would be a fair value for this setup?

Re: Here we go again (new tank question)

I definitely wouldn't pay more than 400. The problem with buying used equipment is you never will really know what has gone on with the tank before you owned it. Has it been treated with copper? That is just one of the concerns that I would have. JMO
